Garrigue Vineyard in the Snow The shares run from the purchase date for a full year or 2 years. The vintage you get lags the year of your share by about three years because our red wines are released 2-3 years after vintage. This means you are typically getting the most recent vintage available.

The difference between Garrigue and Hillside: Garrigue is an excellent parcel for powerful but relatively easy-drinking merlot. Hillside is very low yield and has highly concentrated berries, a south-east facing slope and old vines therefore producing a more complex 'vin-de-garde' (aging) wine than its neighbour Garrigue. The wine resulting from Garrigue is typically lightly oaked while the wine from Hillside is 100% aged in French oak barrels.

Hillside Vineyard in the Autumn Garrigue Vine Share 1 year-: €99

Garrigue Vine Share 2 years-: €195
Hillside Vine Share 1 year-: €140
Hillside Vine Share 2 years-: €270

Frequently Asked Questions about the Vineyard Share

How to order and options can be found at the top of this page.

    Why are there different options?

There are share options for collecting from the property (the 'classic') but we found many of our Irish shareholders flew since fly-drive was less time consuming and often cheaper than ferry-drive so we created the 'delivered' half-case option for Irish shareholders (although if you are driving and stocking up on wine the tax savings can pay for your trip).

How do I add shipping to the classic wine share options?

Shipping doesn’t come automatically with the 'classic' options as many people collect or wait to see if they are able to collect then organise shipping later if necessary. If you know you want it shipped it's a good idea to do it immediately as this will guarantee it a place on our next delivery. With the paypal screen open with your vine share already in the cart click through to: Classic vines share delivery options and click on the delivery you want - this should automatically add the delivery to your cart. Sometimes the original paypal page with only the share will still be open so, to avoid confusion, close it before proceeding on your paypal page that has the share and the shipping on it.

If you already paid for the share and want to organise shipping then click the link above, select the delivery you want then proceed through the steps with paypal.

    When are the events?

Ripe Merlot in the Hillside parcel We run two events for shareholders - a day in spring and then the harvest weekend early October. Shareholders can visit us and their row at any time (with a few days notice to make sure one of us is available). The spring event is a single day with picnic lunch where we do work in the vineyard relating to pruning or shoot removal from the base of the vine. You are welcome to stay on in the area and organise activities like a wine class or visit to St Emilion with Caroline to complement the day (see details of Caroline tours and classes at www.frenchwineadventures.com ).

For 2010: the Spring event is provisionally booked for 17 April and the Harvest day for 2 October.

How much does the Harvest weekend cost?

The harvest day is free for shareholders. The dinner in the castle is €30 per person. We also offer optional extras like a walk in the vineyard with gourmet lunch on the Sunday and a visit to St Emilion grand crus on the Monday with lunch in St Emilion village so those who can stay and are interested in Bordeaux wines can make the most of the trip. Email caroline @ wildearthvineyards.com for details.

    Where do we stay?

There is great B&B accommodation in walking distance and a little further from around €80 per night for 2 sharing (ie €40pp).

These are all booked up for the Harvest Weekend 2010. For options for the Harvest weekend scroll to the bottom of this web page.

The places we recommend to stay are (please tell them you came on our recommendation):

  • our own self-catering holiday house: the Grape Escape Gite
  • www.chateaudesbaudry.com A luxury chateau; Helene and Francois are delightful and offer gourmet food.
  • www.domaine-de-rudel.com Nadine is wonderful and they offer a great dinner and are also an easy walk from the Lion D'Or restaurant.
  • www.laqueyssie.com Dominique is lovely and they do superb dinners.

Where can we get your wines?

To order direct from us online click IRELAND ORDERS; UK ORDERS or FRANCE ORDERS

For where you can find our wines around the world click WHERE.

What is the deadline for collecting our wine?

Within the year of your share (but if you want to arrange with us to collect a few months later please contact us). If we don’t hear from you within a year of the expiry of your share your case of wine will no longer be available as we cannot hold stock beyond this period for space and accounting reasons.

Do we get the wine that we have picked?

No, you get the most recently bottled vintage. There is a lag of 2 years for our red wines and its impractical to wait. The good news is you can drink what you pick if you renew! Some of our shareholders that renewed each year are drinking the 2007 that they helped make 2 years ago.

Can I give the share to a couple?

Absolutely – our shares can be for a couple. In fact many are given as wedding gifts. If it’s for a single person they can attend events with their partner as our invitations are for the shareholder and partner.

How far is Cherbourg or Le-havre from Saussignac?

    8 hours drive.
